The Precious Mystery

In a very spontaneous way, the study of The Parable of the Treasure, (of the Pearl) has led me to create this painting. I did not have a set vision, one move led to another. I only knew I wanted to work with the image of The Field and represent the human person in it. I see the earth as God's own field already sown by the Redeemer of everlasting life. This parable of the treasure tells us of a man who sold everything he had to buy an entire field where a treasure is buried.

The style is expressive of my inner vision of earth, wind and spirit. The ears of the figure are especially important to it's meaning, so too the light, the wheat and the weeds which are some of the imagery we find in the parables of Jesus. Through the use of actual dried weeds and wheat from my garden, charcoal and paint, I hope to drive home to the heart, the experience of life as the precious mystery.
